Terri Levine just wrote a great article entitled Six Tips to Restore the Motivation to Work, and I wanted to make sure to pass that along to you.

Many managers struggle to support employee motivation and engagement, because they feel squeezed between lack of money, too much to do, and an unpredictable future.  But here’s my message:

If your employee isn’t engaged in his or her work, it’s because you haven’t demonstrated a reason to trust you and believe in the value of the work.

Do your people have a reason to be inspired to do good work?

Sorry, but giving them a paycheck – even a very good one – is just the price of getting them to show up every day.  I’m talking about what inspires them to put in their best, day after day.

That comes from having a larger reason to be engaged in your work.

What are you doing about your employee engagement?

A recent Glassdoor.com survey contained some interesting statistics:

  • 38% of employed people believe they will be able to find jobs that match their skills and experience, up from 33% just three months ago.
  • As the economy rebounds, 21% of employees expect to be looking for a new job, and 57% expect a raise, bonus, and/or promotion.
